Switzerland one of the most peaceful countries in the world
Switzerland has been ranked as one of only ten 'truly peaceful' countries in the world.
The Global Peace Index 2016 listed only ten countries as conflict-free.
Switzerland belongs to a select group in being free of internal and external conflicts…. This includes Japan, Panama, Vietnam, Chile, Costa Rica, Qatar, Uruguay, Mauritius and Botswana.
The new global study, produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace also places Switzerland seventh in its study of the most peaceful country in the world – and that's despite it having compulsory military service.
Just eleven countries were given a ‘very high' peace rating, with Iceland, Denmark and Austria coming out on top.
Syria was ranked the least peaceful country in the world for the second year in a row, below both Iraq and South Sudan.
