World TB Day - 24th March

Mid Morning Mix // Health // March 24, 2017

Dr Lucica Ditiu, Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership, says TB is an old and curable disease, but the effects remain devastating.

Today is World TB day, marking the 135th anniversary of the discovery of the TB bacillus by Dr. Robert Koch.

There are several events today to mark World TB Day to highlight the work being done to bring TB under control.

The highlights in Geneva include the illumination of the Jet d'Eau in red this evening and a screening of the film, The Lucky Specials, which tells the story of a South African cover band, all affected by TB. The film will be shown at the Maison de la Paix in Geneva this evening at 6pm (free - donations at the door).

The Stop TB partnership is a UN backed organization that leads the fight against this infectious disease. At the moment, it is more dangerous than HIV/AIDS and malaria. It kills someone every 18 seconds.
