Swiss National Day on the 1st of August is celebrated in style in Bern. There is an exciting program of events for young and old taking place all over the city, starting with the city brunch on the Münsterplatz in the morning and rounded off with a firework display up on the Gurten in the evening. During the day, you can visit numerous attractions. Enjoy music, tasty food served outdoors, and join in the fun and games that are part of the kids' program on the Münsterplattform terrace.
Basel traditionally begins its celebration of Swiss National Day on July 31 with a city festival on the Rhine. More than 90 food stands and sales stalls, as well as numerous music stages and performances, set the mood on both sides of the Rhine until 2 o´clock the following morning. The festival area stretches along the Kleinbasler side of the Rhine from the Johanniterbrücke to the Wettsteinbrücke, and in Grossbasel from the Johanniterbrücke to the Mittlere Brücke, and from the harbour to the Marktplatz.
It's quite the celebration for First of August in Lausanne, including speeches, concerts, a parade, and large family-friendly reception. All culminating of course with a fireworks display over Lac Léman.
Zurich will begin the festivities with a parade which will start at 10:20 am and will be followed by a festival which will include Swiss delicacies, music and events that will accommodate everybody of all ages. In the evening expect a dazzling fireworks display that can be seen from all major municipalities of Zurich.
There are four days of celebrations in Vevey, beginning on the 30th! A photo exhibition, a folk market, parade, concerts, and many other First of August ceremonies.
Fribourg will celebrate the 1st of August in the old town with a "Cors Des Alpes" at 5:30 pm and will host various different events and shows through out the evening from flag flowers, to yodelling. At 10:00 pm a traditional fire will be set and will finish off with a big fireworks showcase.
Zug will hold a very musical day of celebrations down by the lake, from choirs to jazz performances! The festivities will commence at 10:00 pm and will continue on through the evening and will be closing with a raft being set on fire on the lake!
Geneva will hold their celebrations at Parc La Grange and will have an honoured guest, the country of Benin which shares the same national day as Switzerland. The multicultural program will showcase the cultural wealth of both countries and will include various events, music, rides and many more fun things to do! The event will start from 3:00 pm and will go late into the evening.
Lucerne will be commencing their festivities with a cannon being shot off at 10:15 am accompanied by the military band. Then starting at 07:00 pm boats will be available to those who would like take a tour of the lake with dinner and a view for the fireworks which commence at 09:45 pm!
If you're a fireworks lover and you're in the Valais, then Crans-Montana is the place to be! They put on the largest firework show in the region. And the activities begin early on the 29th!
At the end of July, the residents of Biel, the Three Lakes Region and many visitors admire the enchanting display of fireworks to celebrate the Swiss National Day throughout the night. Over 50 stalls near the lake offer something for everyone including entertainment, catering, an amusement park for the kids and a concert. Come join the party!
