Dear Celeste, Very interested in the latest “Traveller” info on Ticino, especially given it is billed as the “best ever recommendation”! I’ve Googled Grotto Borei - Ticino, and there are several hits all stating that they are Osteria Grotto Borei …. One says great views of Brissago, that being Battistessa Fiorella e Sara… is this the one being recommended? Additionally, in the spirit of the Osteria, great food and local produce so not “silver spoon” any suggestions for places to stay. I’m hoping to take up the “Traveller” challenge and drive to Ticino from Lausanne this weekend returning on Tuesday. Thanks for the inspiration. Kindest regards, Mike Flaherty (Pully Nord).
Mike, You will not be disappointed. The Ticino is my favourite part of Switzerland. DO NOT miss Ascona, it is heaven on earth. Stay in the Hotel Tamaro in Ascona, not 5 star, but friendly and welcoming and right in the heart of things. Lots of good restaurants around. Take the scenic route to the Ticino, along the Rhone Valley to Visp, turn off towards Naters and go along the Goms valley (unspoilt) until Ulrichen. Take the road to the Nufenen Pass (beautiful, high and spectacular) and then down the Val Bedretto to Airollo where you join the autoroute to either Lugano or Locano. Locarno way for Ascona. Enjoy!
