UN human rights expert: 'For me, it's crucial to address the problems' in Burma
Aung San Suu Kyi spoke at the UN’s International Labour Organization yesterday about the need for international sanctions to be lifted now that Myanmar seems to be on the road to democracy. Foreign aid and responsible foreign investment were high on her list of priorities, but so was the rule of law. She sees this as the key to helping resolve ethnic conflicts already spreading in Myanmar. Conflicts of specific concern to Tomás Ojea Quintana, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Myanmar. He spoke to WRS’s Lucas Chambers:
