Snow Report: Excellent ski conditions at high altitudes

For the last Snow Report of this year’s season, Matthew Leighton says while most low-lying resorts are closing this weekend, there is still plenty of snow on the higher slopes. Though it has been a disappointing last few days with rain and warm temperatures, the temperature may dip on Sunday creating some good ski conditions for next week:

Still sunny skiing at over 100 resorts

Good skiing is to be had from 10 a.m. until between noon and 2 p.m., especially on higher or north facing slopes, says Matthew Leighton. But beware—earlier than that the snow is very hard. Matthew says many pistes around the country are still open and if you call ahead, you might even be able to get 30 to 40 percent off at some of the resort hotels:

Snow Report: Classic spring ski conditions

Spring has sprung! It’s going to be warm and sunny for the first official weekend of spring, but resorts across the country still have plenty of snow on the pistes despite the daily melt. And resorts will be relatively quiet for the next week before the long Easter break so you can enjoy the excellent conditions without the crowds. Matthew Leighton has details:

Snow Report: Another sunny, ski-friendly weekend

Another sunny start to the weekend prompts Matthew Leighton to encourage skiers to take advantage of some morning skiing followed by a seriously long lunch. With plenty of snow left at anything above 1,500 meters, the conditions are set to be excellent despite a drop in temperature on Sunday afternoon:

Adding to the excellent foundation of snow already covering altitudes above 1,500 meters, another layer was deposited last Monday and in the last 24 hours. All resorts are reporting that virtually all pistes are open. Matthew Leighton say to expect sunny weather over the weekend with spring snow conditions in the afternoon:

Snow Report: Lots of snow, sunshine and warm weather

The sun will be shining Friday and Saturday, but you will need to be out skiing early and stop on the south facing slopes by lunchtime due to the spring snow conditions. Matthew Leighton says to expect temps of 10°C even at altitudes of 2,000 meters. There is plenty of snow everywhere across the country above 1,500 meters, however as avalanche risk is increasing, off-piste skiing is not recommended:

Snow Report: Fantastic skiing with plenty of sun

As the weather gets warmer, the combination of sunshine and plenty of snow make skiing conditions wonderful. It’s not yet spring so snow is dry and hard. Matthew Leighton says most runs are open throughout the country. There’s also good off-piste skiing to be had if you go with a guide. He also says when you take a break be careful—ski thieves are lurking:

Sublime skiing after the deep chill

With a deep base of snow covering all parts of the country, and a good deal of snowfall over the last 24 hours, conditions for skiing are said to be phenomenal. Once again, be careful on the slopes as it will be crowded with the school break:

Excellent skiing for half-term holidays

Ski conditions remain excellent at all altitudes but beware of the high winds especially up high where some lifts may be closed. While it is still chilly, temperatures are returning to more comfortable levels compared to last week’s blistering cold. With half-term school holidays starting beware of crowded roads and pistes:

Good skiing if you wrap up for wind chill

The mountains will be very cold this weekend, with a wind chill factor that will make the temperature seem even lower. Presently, ski resorts are reporting excellent snow conditions at all altitudes, with little wind, but the northern bise is expected to arrive in the next 24 hours. Matthew Leighton gives the latest snow report and advises drivers to make sure that their cars are equipped with snow chains and a good battery:

Wrap up and enjoy the snow

This weekend brings mostly show showers throughout the country with a dip in temperatures. So expect to enjoy the excellent ski conditions. However, Matthew Leighton warns that you must stick to the pistes due to a greater risk of avalanches with all that snow. He has more details and urges skiers to enjoy the fairly quiet slopes now before the school holidays begin:

Snow Report: More snow en route, with clouds

After a 10-day stretch of gorgeous sunny weather, clouds are returning for the weekend. That means fresh snow at altitudes above 1,500 metres in most places, but the next couple of days will bring rain for some lower resorts. The current situation varies quite a lot depending where you are, so Matthew Leighton takes us around the country:

Snow Report: Stunning ski conditions for your weekend

The sun is shining on most Swiss slopes, the winds have died down, the holiday rush is over and anywhere above 1,200 metres you’re guaranteed stacks and stacks of snow. All that snow means lots of avalanche potential though, and that means piste control teams are setting off loads of controlled avalanches—literally going through tons of explosives already this year.
Resorts reopening after Storm Andrea's bluster

Most ski resorts below about 2,000 metres will start reopening after Storm Andrea’s 160+ kilometre per hour winds forced most across the country to halt at least some of their lifts. Andrea has left plenty of powder in her wake, but do check before you go to make sure resort roads are open. And be aware of the risk of avalanches. Matthew Leighton has the latest:

Snow Report: New Year's weekend looking good

Skiing has been out-of-this-world with fresh snow and sunny skies pretty much everywhere above 2,000 metres and merely fabulous above 1,500 metres. Conditions for the weekend are looking good but with all the snowfall it will take some time to get the pistes in shape. As it warms up over the weekend with more snow and rain, you’ll definitely want to ski above 1,500 metres. Matthew Leighton gives us a tour around the country:
