Food Scout: Marmite, the Swiss way (hint: It's chocolate)
Amy Eber explains why chocolate cauldrons filled with marzipan vegetables and fruit jelly candies have been showing up everywhere in Geneva during the build-up to the city’s Fête de l’Escalade:

Is there an online shop to buy marmite ?
Maureen, you can only buy it during Fête de l’Escalade season. Some chocolate maker might ship it.
Do you know where I can buy a mould to make a chocolate marmite myself? I am a caterer for a swiss society in London and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get one every year from Geneva so thought I’d like to make one myself! Look forward to hearing from you Esther
Hi Esther. I will ask the people running the two big chocolate fairs here in Switzerland if they can ask one of the chocolate producers in Geneva for a source. Look at the pics for this story. I took them at one shop. You can get an idea of their assembly process so maybe you can rig up a substitute. I also Googled “cauldron chocolate mould” and some things came up for the US. Do the same and also include Halloween or Witch. You could find the size you want on a UK site and attach the legs. The marmite chocolate maker I saw attached the legs and arms separately.
Thank you Amy, I have also looked up chocolate moulds for cauldrons in the net, but none of them are big enough!! I did make one a few years ago, with a vase that I have, but it was far too thick, so that was why I was looking for a mould that I could pour the chocolate inside rather than painting layers of chocolate on the outside of the vase!! I will keep checking in to see if you get an answer from the two big chocolate fairs that you mention. Yours sincerely Esther
What size are you looking for?
HI Esther. Spoke to the person in charge of the upcoming Salon in Zurich. This list of exhibitors will be posted shortly. http://zurich.salon-du-chocolat.com/guide.aspx When it comes up, I suggest contacting the Geneva producers directly to ask them where they source their forms. Some may only speak French. I would also suggest Goggling a list of all of the Geneva producers to ask them. The lower cost/mass producers sometimes use inexpensive plastic sheets with half the form indented. I also saw this form being used at Laderach in Ennenda, Glarus (see my show archives for contact info). Upscale producers often use very expensive metal form and that is likely too costly for your needs. Good luck.
