Arts CH: This Lady Macbeth 'would be king' if she could
It’s a tale of lust and power, of love and revenge. Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a dark tragedy that inspired many artists including Italian composer Verdi. He started writing the music for a Macbeth opera back in 1847. When first sung, his opera was an instant hit. And today German director Christof Loy has decided to take on this Verdi masterpiece. His contemporary adaptation premieres tomorrow at the Geneva Opera and runs until June 26. Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Larmore sings and plays, for the first time, the gloomy Lady Macbeth. Born in Atlanta, she has performed at every major opera house in the world. Reporter Marc Menichini met the American singer and started by asking her about her version of Lady Macbeth:
