Zurich officials say proposals for the new Hardturm football stadium are too expensive, but the project should still stay on track for its 2017 opening.

Zurich’s engineering department yesterday said the proposals seen so far are well above the budget of 150 million francs. 

Three teams will be picked to revise their plans for a 19,000 person capacity stadium for Zurich’s two football teams.

Zurich city engineer André Odermatt said the architects should not try to get carried away with the designs and just make fans, players and stadium operators happy.
