Young Swiss in a 'debt trap'


Young adults in Switzerland have a hard time getting rid of debt once they have started borrowing.

The 2012 Radar Youth Debt report from the collections agency Intrum Justitia showed once 18- to 25-year olds had any kind of debt, 37 percent were still struggling with it five years later.

The most affected by debt five years on are in the Romandie, at 43 percent, compared to 34 percent in Ticino.

Most young women, 61 percent, carried debt from medical or lab bills.

Most young men, 60 percent, were racking up debt by shopping online.
