Widmer-Schlumpf: German deal is 'best solution'

Finance Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf says there will still be no renegotiating a tax deal with Germany, despite the deals dwindling chances to be ratified by German parliament.

Widmer-Schlumpf told public television the deal is still the best solution for both Germany and Switzerland.

She said if Berlin rejects the deal “we just have to live with it.”

German Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, meanwhile, said if German Social Democrats seriously intend to block the tax deal as they have threatened, the it has no chance.

She said Social Democrats had made the agreement an election issue, meaning their opposition will make progress difficult.
