Thousands enjoy Parliament's 'open door'

Some 4,000 people stepped into the Federal Palace yesterday, for the annual open house on Swiss National Day.

The presidents of both houses of parliament answered questions, and took criticism from the public.

Hans Altherr, president of the Council of States, called it exciting to see the public in the parliamentary chambers for once, saying visitors showed clear interest in politics and institutions.

Visitors might also have liked the chocolate.

Industry group Chocosuisse had 5,000 sweets to hand-out at the capital.
