Tax chief suspended in IT scandal

Swiss president Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf has temporarily suspended the head of the Federal Tax Administration after an investigation of a massive IT project.

The Federal Department of Finance began a review of the INSIEME project in January, and said it found the Federal Tax Administration had repeatedly violated procurement laws.

The responsibility and consequences fell on director Urs Ursprung.

The Berner Zeitung newspaper reported yesterday federal prosecutors are also investigating the project, though not Ursprung.

The case centers around alleged nepotism and financial irregularities.
