The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillai is calling on the UN Security Council to intervene in Syria.
She also says the situation there should be referred to the International Criminal Court.
Today, the UN Human Rights Council, based in Geneva, is holding an urgent debate on the human rights and humanitarian situation in Syria. It is expected a resolution should be put forward for adoption.
The Syrian ambassador, Faysal Khabaz Hamoui, has already rejected the session and any resolution it could lead to.
