If people were encouraged to use public transport rather than their cars for leisure activities like visiting friends or going to a restaurant, some 25 million car miles could be saved every day in Switzerland.
That’s the findings of a study by the Federal Office for Spatial Development which looked into people’s traveling habits and motivation.
It concluded that changing just one paradigm—for example, making public transport cheaper—could persuade people to change their habits.
And, in case you were wondering, 25 million miles is equivalent to circumnavigating the earth 626 times.
