Switzerland has agreed to send certain criminal data to the U.S., to prevent a U.S. ultimatum of reinstating visas for Swiss travelers.
The Federal Council today said finger print, DNA and other criminal data would be exchanged in cases of serious crimes, or those which carried sentences of three years or more.
Data protections were included in the deal, with information having to be deleted or restricted upon request.
The U.S. said it wanted access to the data to fight serious crimes, or better track known or suspected terrorists.
Parliament must still approve the deal.
