Sion holds this year's high temp, for now

Temperatures Monday may not have broken all-time records, but they did top this year’s record.

Residents in Sion in the canton of Valais saw 36.9 degrees according to public television, and that is the highest temperature seen since 2003.

At that time the mercury climbed to 41.5 degrees.

Other spots around the country saw between 31 and 34 degrees, making it the hottest day of the year.

It may help to keep the fans running for the coming days, as sun and humidity will sustain temperatures of over 30 degrees.

One thing keeping the temperatures high during the day is the fact nighttime lows are staying high.  In Basel and Zurich they didn’t dip below 20 Sunday night.

The heat does mean warmer waters, though, with the Aare river in Bern a comfortable 22 degrees on Monday, and Lake Geneva topping 25 degrees in spots.

If you prefer even warmer, Lake Lugano was a toasty 27 degrees.
