Senators won’t recommend the people vote for tougher smoking restrictions in bars and restaurants.
They joined MPs in the National Council in rejecting the initiative by 26 to 15.
The initiative would make a uniform national law barring smoking in places where people work—notably in restaurants and bars.
A majority of senators said the current law which permits smoking in small bars and restaurants is good enough.
Voters will have the final say.
