Former Julius Baer banker Rudolf Elmer is changing his story about the data disks he gave to WikiLeaks, the website that reveals leaked documents.
Elmer told Swiss authorities the disks were blank, rather than full of private bank client information as he previously claimed, his lawyer Ganden Tethong said.
Tethong said prosecutors have not given evidence to refute her client’s new claims.
The data hand-over was widely publicized in January, leading Zurich prosecutors to arrest Elmer shortly after another banking secrecy trial against him was concluded.
Earlier this week, media reports cited a former Scotland Yard detective who said the disks were blank.
The banker has been in investigative custody since January and will likely stay there until October.
