Rega cleared over foreign soldier flights

The Federal Supervisory Board for Foundations has declared air rescue Rega free of any wrong-doing, when it transported foreign soldiers from war zones.

The board said Rega’s actions were about transporting patients, covered by relevant statutes.

Early this month the business publication Handelszeitung reported Rega had flown U.S. soldiers from Afghanistan and Iraq to the U.S. military base in Germany.

The paper also claimed there was some “beautification of Rega financial data”, which the paper later corrected, and the Supervisory Board saw no cause for action.

The flights were for international insurance companies, not a government, and were not paid for by Rega donor money.
