Preonzo authorities keep eye on unstable cliff

In Ticino, the cantonal road at Preonzo re-opened today, but residents and geologists continue to watch the unstable cliff above.

Early Monday morning 300,000 cubic meters of rock slid down. No damage occurred from that rockfall, however there are 500,000 more cubic meters of debris that still threatens to come down.

The school and the industrial area at the foot of the cliff remain closed until Monday.

Geologists say the dry weather has stabilized the cliff so far, but because of rain predicted on Sunday, they have a look-out to keep an eye on the mountain.
