Film director Roman Polanski made his first public appearance Saturday since Swiss authorities decided on July 12 not to extradite him to the United States.
Polanski attended the Montreux Jazz Festival to watch his wife, singer Emmanuelle Seigner, perform.
The 76-year-old spoke with Swiss public television over the weekend as well.
“I feel a deep friendship for the people of Gstaad and the area, because they have supported me,” Polanski said. “The messages, phone calls, SMS, e-mails, they came chiefly from people from Gstaad. The big support that I mentioned before…it came first and foremost from the Swiss.”
He also thanked his family and attorney for helping him through his ordeal.
