The mayor of a Peruvian town has been arrested for inciting protests outside a mine owned by Swiss firm Xstrata.
Police arrested Oscar Mollohuanca of the Espinar province, after two protesters died, and dozens of people were injured in clashes this week.
Protesters claim a copper mine owned by Xstrata is polluting two rivers, though the Zug-based company denies that.
On Monday, Peru declared a 30-day state of emergency in the province.
