Panel proposes higher Merck severance

The Geneva Chamber for Collective Labor Relations wants Geneva Merck Serono workers to get a bigger severance.

The chamber proposes workers get 1.25 months salary per every year with the company, which is a compromise between company and employee demands.

The parties still need to accept that compromise though. Employees will likely decide on it next week at a general meeting.

Earlier this week a mediation process between labor union Unia and Merck Serono failed to find an agreement on a social plan.

The closure of the company’s site in Geneva will see 500 job cuts, and perhaps 750 relocations.
