Nuclear stations meet safety standards

European nuclear safety regulators says Switzerland’s nuclear power stations fully comply with international safety standards.

The assessment came as part of a review of all EU nuclear plants following the Fukushima disaster in Japan in March 2011.

The regulators said Swiss nuclear power stations had high safety margins and were very robust.

Protection against the loss of emergency cooling of the reactors was described as excellent.

They also singled out for praise the measures Switzerland had taken in analyzing earthquake risk.
