MPs for tax deals, but barely

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of States recommends accepting tax deals with Germany, Austria and the UK, but just barely.

Voting 5 to 4 the committee recommended MPs ratify the deals when discussed in the forthcoming summer session.

Voting 6 to 1 the committee also recommends against renegotiating the deals, to have more clarity on what happens to stolen Swiss bank client data.

The deals are meant to be models for how Switzerland will remedy issues of untaxed foreign money within its borders, and how it will deal with foreign clients in the future.

Parliaments in all countries still need to vote on the deals.
