Former U.S. Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is now an official Swiss citizen. The Swiss consulate in Chicago confirmed that Bachmann became a citizen on March 19.
Her husband, Marcus Bachmann, is of Swiss parentage from the canton of Thurgau.
His Swiss citizenship was filed in February.
Bachmann’s dual nationality means that she could even run for office here. She said that the competition would be tough.

Do I smell double standards?? How is that possible? I thought you have to live in Switzerland for at least 5 years to become a citizen even if your spouse is. Has she ever visited or lived for even up to 6 months? These are important questions to me because in 2 years I will be seeking permanent residence because my husband is Swiss and it will be interesting to see if it goes smoothly. Can someone at WRS please ask how this is possible that she can file for citizenship.Or is a different standard for the rich with citizenship up for sale?
Dear Amb,
We have added a couple links to stories that aired on this evening’s The Wrap that will answer your question.
