Two-time world figure skating champion Stéphane Lambiel has retired from competition, the International Skating Union has confirmed.

The 24-year-old is due to appear later this month on Thin Ice, an American show in which an expert panel and the TV audience judge pairs of skaters.

Participation in such activities goes against ISU rules and therefore excludes Lambiel from future competitions.

Lambiel had already come out of retirement to compete at the 2010 Vancouver games, where he finished fourth.
