The Justice Minister says posting pictures on the internet of people accused of crimes is a ‘return to the Middle Ages.’ Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf says she can only see one place for the practice, namely after the accused are sentenced by the courts. She said, however, that even then its deterrent effects are questionable.
Her position is in opposition to the Minister of Sports, Ueli Maurer, who presented a series of measures today to combat violence in sports. Maurer says publishing photos of suspected hooligans on the internet helps to take away their anonymity.
