ICRC appeals for Syria aid

The International Committee of the Red Cross says it needs 24.5 million francs to continue its aid work in Syria through the end of the year.

The aid organization called for donations in Geneva this morning to continue to support those affected by violent internal conflict which began after an uprising last year.

The ICRC said tens of thousands of people have had to leave their homes, a hundred thousand need food parcels and one point five million face poor living conditions and a lack of public services, such as running water.

and while the situation has calmed down in some parts of the country, ICRC president Jakob Kellenberger said there was still unrest in many places.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is the only international aid agency working inside Syria.
