Health insurance premiums will go up moderately next year.
Santesuisse, the umbrella group of insurers, puts the rise at between 2 and 3 percent on average.
Director of Santesuisse Christoph Meier says the rise is not dramatic as treatment costs haven’t increased.
Adults could see an increase of 2.2 percent and children 4.4 percent.
Premiums could see a more significant hike in 2014 though.
That’s because treatment costs have to be fixed with hospitals.
Drug prices could also go up based on the exchange rate.
The number of specialists has sky rocketed since the beginning of the year, incurring higher costs too.
If the trend continues Santesuisse suggests a moratorium on new practices may need to be reinstated.
