German 'pirates' file complaint over tax CDs

Three members of Germany’s pirate party have filed a criminal complaint against a state finance minister for buying stolen Swiss bank customer data.

Pirate MP Dirk Schatz said North Rhine-Westphalia finance minister Norbert Walter-Borjans may have committed a crime for aiding or instigating data theft.

Other pirates have criticized the Schatz’s complaint, with the parliamentary faction distancing itself from the claim.

Walter-Borjans said of the pirates, that they fight for transparency and are against protecting intellectual property, and are now guardians of Swiss banking secrecy and undeclared billions.

German foreign minister Guido Westerwelle, meanwhile, told Swiss magazine Bilanz that such data purchases were questionable and should stop.
