Fewer gay men acquiring AIDS

For the first time in six years, health officials expect a drop in the transmission of AIDS among homosexual men in Switzerland. The federal office of public health is predicting fewer than 300 will be diagnosed with AIDS this year, compared to 331 last year.

Health officials say that, overall, women represent the highest percentage of people diagnosed with AIDS, at nearly 57 percent. Homosexual men account for about 40 percent of cases. Among heterosexuals, nearly 57 percent of new cases are among women.
