The hit parade for the favorite names in Switzerland last year is out.
Emma climbed to its highest level since 2004 but many other names saw a mere rotation on 2010’s favorites.
And as always regional differences were observed.
Girls born in German-speaking Switzerland last year were most likely to be Mia, Lena or Elena.
As for the boys, Leon proved most popular, followed by Noah then Luca.
In Western Switzerland, Emma was number one. Lara and Chloe came in second and third.
For boys, Noah, Gabriel and Nathan topped the charts.
More traditional Italian names were the order of the day in Ticino—Giulia followed by Sofia and then Emma for the girls and Mattia, Alessandro and Leonardo for the boys.
Names from the Romansch region are not always ranked due to the low birthrate.
But last year the male names Flurin and Nino were abundant.
Anna and Laura claimed the top stops for female names.
