Canton Neuchâtel’s former head doctor went on trial today for having helped an incurably ill patient end her days.

The case is throwing new light on how fine a legal line exists in Switzerland on assisted suicides.

The retired doctor is a member of Exit, a group that organizes the practice.

Her sentence early next month could speed up a new legal framework for assisted suicides.
