Foreign diplomats in Bern are claiming diplomatic immunity to avoid paying traffic fines.

Last year, more than 2,300 traffic violation notices were ignored and fines worth 196,000 francs went unpaid, according to statistics compiled by Bern cantonal police.

That means just one in 10 diplomats in Bern paid up for flouting traffic rules.
