Thurgau fire causes millions in damage

Firefighters spend Sunday night and Monday morning dousing embers on the shores of Lake Constance, after five warehouses burned through the night in Arbon, in the canton of Thurgau.

The fire caused millions in damage, and four firefighters were injured.

The buildings were previously owned by trucking firm Saurer, but most recently are rented by dozens of companies—some of which lost everything.

“That is clearly a catastrophe for Arbon, especially for the labor center Arbon,” Arbon city councilman Patrick Hug told Radio DRS,

“This has affected well-known companies, and some companies now have nothing.  I am shocked and saddened by this.”

More than 350 firefighters battled the blaze, with at least 40 still working after 14.5 hours.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
