The federal court has ruled that Serbs from Kosovo who are not granted asylum in Switzerland can be sent back to Serbia.
The case which has set the precedent centres around a Serbian woman who had lived in Kosovo before coming to Switzerland to apply for asylum.
She said she’d suffered discrimination in her village in Kosovo, because she was a Serb.
The court has ruled that, having been denied asylum here, she can be deported to Serbia.
But officials say that cantons must make sure the asylum seekers have sufficient links with Serbia and the means to survive there.
