Coop, one of the country’s two largest retailers, has confirmed that a frozen lasagna it was selling contained horse meat.
The contents were confirmed by a laboratory examination commissioned by Coop as part of the European-wide investigation into horse meat being sold as beef.
The product is called Verdi Bolognese and was sold under Coop’s own brand and was produced by the French company Comigel.
Coop voluntarily pulled the lasagna off the shelves yesterday.
