Consequences seen for 'Kristallnacht' tweet

A local Zurich Swiss People’s Party politician allegedly called for a “Kristallnacht” for mosques.

It is unclear if the politician really posted the message to his Twitter account over the weekend, which in its entirety read, “Maybe we need a Kristallnacht again…this time for Mosques.”

Zurich Swiss People’s Party President Roger Liebi said if the message was not a forgery, or misunderstanding, the politician could be expelled from the party.

The Young Greens say they will file a formal complaint tomorrow, as they say the message violated Swiss Anti-Racism laws.

The politician told the Tages Anzeiger newspaper he did not call for a “Kristallnacht” and would not do that.  He likened the event to a witch hunt.

Kristallnacht was a night involving a series of attacks targeting the Jewish in Nazi Germany and parts of Austria.
