Forty-four people were evacuated from a building in Basel on Thursday afternoon due to a fire on the Congress Centre’s roof.

A spokesperson for the public prosecutor said the exact cause of the fire hadn’t yet been identified, but confirmed that two workmen were using a gas burner on the roof when it caught alight.

Heavy smoke was reported but there’s currently no estimate on damage caused.
