Austrians file complaint against Mühleberg

The Austrian border state of Vorarlberg has filed for an injunction against the Mühleberg nuclear power plant, claiming there is a safety risk.

Four political faction heads and a representative of environmental groups filed the motion in the Austrian state court in Feldkirch.

The complaints center around insufficient earthquake protections or flood protections at Mühleberg, which could endanger their state.

Many of the listed concerns are known issues at the nuclear plant and must be addressed in a comprehensive maintenance plan if Mühleberg is to keep its operating permit beyond next year, as ordered by two Swiss courts.

Mühleberg operator BKW now has four weeks to answer the Austrian complaint.
