Athletes convicted for intended doping

Athletes who buy and intend to take performance enhancing drugs could find themselves in hot water, without even taking the stuff.

In a first, Swiss Olympic has fined and suspended a cyclist and a skier for possession and intended use of doping substances after tracking athletes’ online activities.

Cyclist Roger Nachbur was suspended for two years for buying and using a contraband substance.

He must pay fines of 22,000 francs.

Skier Reto Eigenmann meanwhile was convicted of ordering and intending to use an illegal performance enhancing drug.

He’s also been suspended for two years and must pay 1,700 francs in fines.
