Arms exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been temporarily suspended, due to concerns that Swiss-made hand grenades have found their way into the conflict in Syria.
The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) is investigating reports, printed in the Sonntagszeitung newspaper, that grenades made by the Swiss company RUAG have ended up in Syria.
SECO’s initial findings suggest the devices may have come from a 2003 shipment of more than 200,000 grenades sent to the UAE.
The UAE had declared they would not be exported to a third country.
Members of the federal parliament have also called for a probe into the matter.
