The Swiss yacht from 2007 America’s Cup champ Alinghi will sail into a Lucerne museum exhibition in the future.

Blandina Werren with Lucerne’s transportation museum, the Verkehrshaus, said the 26-meter long Alinghi Defender was in a secure location in the canton of Lucerne, though an exhibition would not be opened before 2014.

Werren said an installation for the yacht would cost about 2 million francs, so the museum was looking for financing.

The yacht will be kept in seaworthy condition while on display.

Alinghi won the America’s Cup sailing race in 2007 and in 2003.
