10,000 failed asylum seekers get aid

Just over 10,000 rejected asylum seekers received, on average, 115 days of emergency aid last year.

A new report from the Federal office of Migration has revealed some of the figures behind the much-debated system.

Emergency aid covers shelter, food, clothing and basic medical care for asylum seekers who can’t stay in the country.

All of this costs the cantons around 57 million francs a year, but 62 million is given to them on a federal level.

It means five million is left over—this goes into an emergency reserve which cannot be used for other purposes.
