Feel the need to make your mark in the fresh powder? Untouched snow has lured many a skier off-piste, but freeride skiing and snowboarding can pose tremendous risks, many of which are not obvious. So before you ski off the beaten path—and certainly before you let your kids—get informed. And on- or off-piste, the right equipment can save your life and limbs.
