WWF urges Brazil's president to veto new Forest Code
Today is deadline day for Brazil’s President, Dilma Rousseff on whether to approve or veto changes to the country’s decades-old Forest Code, designed to guard against deforestation. Supporters of the proposed changes say the current law must be updated if the country is to continue as a major food producer. But critics say the changes would dismantle forest protections and offer wide-ranging amnesties for past illegal deforestation. WRS’s Pete Forster spoke to WWF International’s Executive Director of Conservation Lasse Gustavsson:
