Worrying trend of alcohol abuse in retirees
Heavy drinking is most often associated with young people but alcohol abuse is increasingly becoming a problem for the over 65 group. The most recent research suggests that in Switzerland that 9 percent of these people are classified as chronic heavy drinkers. That means they drink 2 or more units a day. It’s nearly double the number of over-40s. So why are older people drinking more? WRS’s Dave Goodman spoke to Irene Abderhalden from the alcohol awareness organisation SuchtSchweiz to find out:
