Why foreign academics fill Swiss universities
Over half of all researchers in Swiss universities are from abroad—56.7 percent to be precise. So says a new study which claims that lack of promotion and low salaries compared to other industries is putting the Swiss off pursuing careers in academia.The findings will appear in the journal Nature Biotechnology in December. So does more need to be done to tempt the Swiss into research roles—potentially a change in the whole system? Pascal Maeder, a research fellow at the University of Basel talked to WRS’s Dave Goodman:
